Inner G.P.S.- Sometimes in life, before we can set our next destination for the future, we need to look back and remember where we came from. This concept, based on the idea of a San Koffa journey, is a powerful understanding that many youth are not afforded the space or opportunity to reflect on during their journeys in the fast-pace tempo of life in western society today. This chapter deals with understanding the sacrifices made by older generations, so that we can comprehend more fully the opportunities and responsibilities that lie before us. This act of looking back in order to move forward helps us better understand the baton of leadership we have been handed so we can appreciate better the blessings, sacrifices, problems, and issues of both previous generations and our own generation. Hip-hop teaches us our need to learn from them, sample them, build off them, and remix them into our own lives so that we can reclaim our histories and in turn regain our position to make history. We welcome you to Inner G.P.S, our collective looking back and looking forward.

Here is a great quote, who can flip this into a dope poem, rap or picture!?

“A race of people is like an individual man; until it uses its own talent, takes pride in its own
history, expresses its own culture, affirms its own selfhood, it can never fulfill itself.”

A Little Big Bro Inspiration:

As I write this my mind is enlightened
with understanding of my divine assignment,
living my life as if it were on consignment,
my purpose buried in the reservoirs of history and I am going to find it,
it cannot be muzzled,
the deeper I dig for peace, I realize I have a piece of the puzzle.
I live my life like an exile hungry for the memory of home,
but until I get there I seek the shalom of the city.
I yearn for my home land but it feels really far,
like Hollywood wanna be actresses working at the tity bar.
This world will leave us really scared, there is no questioning.
Some are consumed by their wounds and I see them just festering,
my anispectic is my expression and when it is released,
I feel the infection start to cease,
each bit of truth redirects the roots to find the rivers of peace.
To be about my Fathers business means to do the hard work of forgiveness,
to share in carrying burdens and to bare witness.
They say it is about survival of the fittest but I believe this is ridiculous,
especially when our life memory is measured with the imprint that we make in loving, those who end up focusing on self end up with nothing,
they will get paid in the reciprocal suffering they have caused,
I’m a rebel without a pause,
I get it hotter than the wifes devil going through menopause,
I was sent to ya’ll to switch up the repitua,
most of these MC’s more deceptive than decipticons,
it is time to take things onto the next echelon,
I travel on gravel roads barefoot so I am careful who I am stepping on.
Armed with my inner GPS, I just keep stepping on.
