Pimp My Ride- We all go through different situations and relationships in life that leave us beaten up. Not just physically, these relationships can cause traumatic experiences that leave dents in our souls. The knowledge we learn from blues music informs us that we can expose these areas of emotional trauma and learn from them in ways that allow us to grow and become stronger because of them. This chapter serves as a pit stop for people to drive in their hoopty experiences of hurt and pain and begin the hard work of processing through them to creatively learn lessons that pimp them out. Turning our pain into propane is a quality in hip-hop that has helped youth around the world become more resilient. Equipped with the tools of love, forgiveness, and raw courage, you will hear voices in this chapter of people who have ventured to the dark sides of their souls and grappled with their deepest fears only to emerge with the light of newfound hope and understanding. Our hope is that the healing voices that drip from these pages will encourage you to apply this healing balm to your own life and in turn pimp your own ride.

Rodney

When I heard you died
My whole life passed through my eyes
Having my emotions lie
Making me not able to cry
We lived in the same room for a semester
Over hearing your rhymes dwelling in my soul
It was not fair
That you were taken
But I know you’re in a rocking chair
Next to god
Spitting rhymes
In a cypher of angels
Teaching men fables
You inspired me
To write rhymes
You’re gone physically
But spiritually you’re with me
Rodney your work will live on
Through your art and friends
As time bends
We will meet up
Once again
Rest in peace
My brother

Socially Dead

A hammer hit heaven
Shattering glass
Not even a sound was heard
I live in a dorm
With the dead
were the only sound is brush
growing over a tombstone
Called expression
Since no one is able to find themselves
It’s been blatantly clear
Our brain has been sold by auctioneer
Who only want to profit
Off the fact
That no one has spoken
Treating broken hearts
As worthless tokens
Trading our emotions
As though we never lived next door
Our souls have been frozen
Since we’ve seem to have woven
A tattoo on our forehead
That says keep going
Even though
A hammer
Hit heaven
No one mentioned
That we can become legends
If only
We beat that war drum
Once more
Creating a titanium core
That is not broken
From the games that we play
With one another
Since not ever day
Is as good as Christmas Eve
You have to believe our emotions
Mean more
Then a feather falling from the sky
But a hammer hit heaven
An no one did anything
Starring at a scar
Known as our body
Filling a vacancy where our soul use to be

4 of 4
_______

I’ve lost 4 friends in 4 years
2 murdered
And 2 by drugs
But if you knew me
If you knew where I grew up
You would say that this would never happen
To a kid of my background
I want to let you know it has
I want you to know
I am just as tired of losing loved one as people are in dangerous parts of the city
I am tired of finding out by facebook
I am tired of these sad feelings eating up my day
Being the only thing I can think of for weeks
Occupying my mind
Like tombstones occupying graveyards
Wooden caskets come from tree
Wood tells stories that we can’t read
And questions that will never be answered
This same idea applies
Just transfer it to those on that fateful night
Where the grim reaper appears
As the step father, a fellow teenager or that shit in the bag that you bought
Slashing there hearts
Thinking he only took one
But he took way more
And left me with questions
Of what could have been done
Why at this age of 21
Do I have experiences that match with war veterans
I don’t buy this fucking answer that everything happens for a reason
Young people dying is not a product on the shelf
That’s for sale
There is no value in death
I don’t buy this is part of gods plan
Since what god
Has a stepfather who killed his first wife
Let out of jail
Then kills his second family with his sons civil war collection
Since what god
Has a kid who inspires everyone around him
To only have him stabbed off the Belmont line for bumping into some one after a party let out
I am 21
And at a 4 of 4 count
This walking path is not easy
I am 21
And at a 4 of 4 count
I know these feelings will pass
My life will go on
And good times are ahead
I just wanted to point out
I am 21 and at a 4 of 4 count.

My first cordless drill was a 7.2 volt Ryobi with battery inside the handle, I miss it. It was small, light, had enough grunt to drive medium sized screws, and had a good true running keyed chuck. Absolutley no frills, but then it didn’t need any. Can you share some information about the cordless drill?
